Human body abides many mysteries that still confuse the scientists. Even though medical sciences have discovered many of its secrets, there are still many pathological conditions which cannot be cured mainly because there is no root cause found yet. Such pathological conditions include cancer and autoimmune diseases as there is no main reason for how these conditions are triggered.

Autoimmune diseases are pathological conditions which are caused when the body’s defense system starts recognizing a part of body as a harmful material and attacks it. This causes death of useful body tissues. Out of many autoimmune diseases, one that is known and recognized by many is called Crohn’s disease.

Crohn’s disease affects gastrointestinal tract. Gastrointestinal tract (GIT) is a passage through body taken by the food material therefore it starts from mouth and ends at anus. Crohn’s disease can affect any part of gastrointestinal tract but after analyzing the probably of patients with different affected parts, it is inferred that three parts are most vulnerable.

Out of many patients recorded, 30% were diagnosed by Crohn’s disease in the ileum, 20% in the colon and a full 50% with ileocolic Crohn’s disease, which means their ileum and colon, were both facing the disorder. One inevitable symptom is inflammation and since the main cause is body’s own defense system, there is no surgical or pharmaceutical procedure that is effective against such disorders.

Minor general symptoms appear years prior to the diagnosis which are abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and weight loss. In initial stages diarrhea may appear like the one generally faced by people but if the inflammation has worsened, there are chances of blood in it too. Crohn’s disease also causes complications outside the gastrointestinal tract such as skin rashes, arthritis, inflammation of the eye, tiredness and lack of concentration. People suffering from this disease may also feel flare-ups and remission.

As mentioned before, Crohn’s disease affects the digestive tract therefore many symptoms are related to it. One of the initial symptoms is abdominal pain. The nature of the diarrhea varies depending upon the part of gastrointestinal tract dealing with the disease as it may be bloody or the patient may have to defecate in short episodes throughout the day and night. This disease can also cause intestinal Stenosis.

Stenosis is narrowing of a vessel or tube that may result in blockage. Perineum can become a painful region of the body as a whole. There can be increased itching around anus due to inflammation. On the other end of the tract, mouth can get affected by many problems like mouth sours which are unable to heal through normal medication and if this disease has affected esophagus or upper part of the gut, then swallowing can be painful that may be followed by vomiting.

Other symptoms include growth failure among children since there is no proper intake and absorption of food material. Patient is likely to suffer from knees and shoulder arthritis, and small joints can also be affected. Sometimes neurological disorders are also affiliated with this disease.
